Thorough preparation for the elements can make the difference between having a challenging yet enjoyable trip and having a disastrous one. Proper gear makes a big difference but gear alone does not make an alpine climber — one must also have good judgement and common sense.

DAY CLIMBS
PERSONAL LAYERS: Your layering system is the key to your body temperature regulation, which is critical to your success in the mountains. Here are some ideas from which to work:
MOUNTAINEERING BOOT: Single or double boot as long as they fit, are warm, and take crampons.
SOCKS: Synthetic or wool
BOTTOM LAYERS:
Polypro/wool base layer
Climbing pants (BD alpine pant)
Gortex pants
TOP LAYERS:

Mid weight insulation
Shell soft shell or Gor-tex
Belay Parka
